Demonstrative Garlic Plots
Demonstrative garlic plots were planted for the farmers in the mountainous region of Ajara. Last November , (Non-commercial) legal entity "Agro Service Center" of the Ministry of Agriculture cultivated garlic demonstration-research plots within the project "Enpard Ajara". Elene Motiashvili, Chief Specialist of Annual Crops Study Department at Scientific Research Center of Georgian Ministry of Agriculture, and the representative of Ukraine company "Best Garlic’’ Victoria Kononenko visited Omar Nakaidze’s demonstrative garlic plant lands in Shuaxevi municipality, village Matskvalta. The farmer planted 375 kg garlic on 2500 square meter. Beside Omar Nakaidze there are 6 more farmers who cultivated garlic in Keda, Shuakhevi and Khulo region. Within the project "Enpard Ajara" legal entity "Agro service center" imported highly productive Ukrainian garlic species. The whole budget of program is 15 800 Gel. The aim of the project is to bring and plant new profitable species of garlic. As the breed of garlic offered by the Agro Service Center was new for the region, the farmers were trained how to care of the plants and take disease control measures. The selection was held by the special commission regarding different criteria.
